Another leg, was really trying so hard to be correct on the knee, and then she went into a different five-minute pose.
Every sketch hour has one…’blarh’ sketch, I feel. The only thing you can do is work at it the best you can and move on, despite the poor proportions and so forth.
ORION
Western Constellation Doodle 2/88
I don’t know very much about this one, other than I find Orion more quickly than I do Ursa Major or Minor in the sky, due to the three stars in the ‘belt’ of his tunic. I’m sure that anyone who studies ancient Greek is in absolute tears of agony over the mishmash of Greek armor styles and weaponry I put on this heavenly hunter.
20 minute pose. Loved having to deal with crossed limbs.
Such an amazingly challenging pose! Wished it lasted longer.
Really trying to buckle down on how legs work. I think I did all right at the foreshortening on her upper leg. This was a five-minute study and I even got some shading in.
DELPHINUS
Western Constellation Doodle 1/88
The story behind this one is that Poseidon scared the ladies when he tried to talk to them, so he grabbed a dolphin and made the animal go talk to his latest crush instead. Later, Poseidon flung the dolphin into the sky for doing such a great job at getting him a wife, where it became a small and under-appreciated constellation: DELPHINUS.
The last 20 minute pose of the day! I’m afraid my drapery came out pretty awkward because I forgot to add it in til the last minute, but there are other parts that I think I rendered well.
Graphite on sketchbook paper.
20 minute pose, totally set out to focus on the lower half of the body and improve my ability to render waists and legs, but I had never seen such a prominent backbone and became fascinated. I don’t think I rendered that correctly either, but maybe I’ll get to work with this wonderful model again sometime!
